Pass the word around - The Union Square bicycle racks are finally installed
and functional - well, sort of.  When I was there yesterday, the biggest SUV
I have ever seen was parked 3 inches the racks, preventing anyone from
actually using them.  When pointed out, I was assured by the manager that
they would take actions to prevent cars parking in that area in the future.
 
It is very important that we start using this facility without a lot of
publicity, other than passing the word on to all your friends in the bicycle
community. It is important that this be a fait accompli.  We'll try to get
some pictures showing use as the word gets around.
 
The racks are located on the east wall of the main floor, within sight of
the pay area.  The racks are inverted "U"; I would recommed using two
U-locks if you have an expensive bike until the reputation for security is
established, and the security personal actually watch the area.
 
Ask your suburban friends to bring their bikes in for shopping, and use the
facility often.  Make a point of telling the staff how much you like it.
