[Carfreeliving] Muni tokens

I believe it's because there is an impending fare hike and people are
hoarding the tokens, which are now being issued in paper instead of coins,
from what I've heard, and now have expiration dates.

Muni is desperate to find money wherever they can.

It's bad enough that we still have paper transfers and no metrocard, but
now
they have stopped selling tokens at the sole token outlet @ powell. This
is awful for so many reasons.

I can't believe how ridiculously stupid this is--I'm so livid I needed to
vent here. Does anyone know if there is some long-term strategy I'm
missing?
