[Carfreeliving] Will LA leapfrog San Francisco?

I appreciate your sentiments and you're right about keeping the discussion
focused, but the things I have to say would simply be a repeat of what
I've said before on the same topics. It's frustrating to hear some of the
opinions expressed, especially about the transportation bureaucracy, which
has become much worse due in part to an article full of inaccuracies
written by TLC and accepted as fact despite what those in the departments
being discussed had to say.

Now city bicycle planning/engineering is in a situation worse than before,
and it's frustrating. To hear the person who helped encourage this deeper
bureaucracy that makes my job harder complain about bureaucracy and
glacial progress and lack of delight in the work being done is incredibly
ironic...and very depressing.

The year started with a lot of promise, and we are putting more projects
out there than ever before (I have been known to dramatically and happily
declare, "more bike projects going out than ever before in the history of
San Francisco!" - won't bet my life on that but it may be true), but I
don't know if that will continue for long. I hope it does.

There's an expression out there that seems to represent what I'm
feeling...it's like someone's peeing on my corn flakes. It's tiring to
have to pour it all out, clean the bowl, and have the same thing repeat
itself.

So, back to my corn flakes. Yum.
Mike

Ok before a flame war erupts lets remember to stay productive. I
didn't want to make any of this personal, but I will in the interest
of avoiding a flame war.

Tom is one of my best friends and a he works VERY VERY hard hard to
improve things around here. I've never found him to disregard facts
& his opinions are usually very informed. Mike I appreciate the
support, but lets try to keep this on the specifics of the ideas
rather than a critique of the players as much as that is possible.
I'd love to hear your perspective on Tom's comments as a DPT planner!
