I think that's a good idea, but would also need to be followed up with
some more direct meeting(s) with him. It's one thing for him to be at
a meeting, see the level of concern of the public, the amount of energy
around the issue, the input of the dept. heads. It's a different thing
for him to claim it as a high priority of his own.. But definitely a
highly visible town hall meeting will be useful, if not key...

ps. if we really want to inspire mr. newsom, we should also arrange a
personal meeting between him and enrique penalosa (former mayor of
bogota, who almost got deposed building a few hundred km of bike/ped
paths, instituting a successful car-free day, and revamping their
transit system). once people figured out that what he was doing was so
rad, he got elected for a second term. not sure but think he might be
trying for president now... he's a great speaker, and is very
inspiring, and think he'd be delighted to help push san francisco in
the right direction. i also happen to know someone who has pretty
direct contact with him...
