[Carfreeliving] Freeway removal in Mississippi?

All,

thought you would be interested in this. The Congress for New Urbanism 
did some charettes in Mississippi Gulf Coast for post storm rebuild. One 
idea proposed is removing a short stretch of Interstate 110 in Biloxi, 
to be replaced by surface boulevard. Very preliminary proposal. Other 
ideas include light rail along coast, TOD around the stations, and 
emphasis on walkable neighborhoods. Bicycles are even mentioned.  This 
is probably one of the last places on earth I thought I would ever hear 
this suggested. It is  not an officially sanctioned plan, but more a 
discussion piece.
