Forwarding on the State Highway Safety Laws Report (thanks Ana).
The report states that car crashes are the number one killer of
Americans between ages 2 and 33, and the 230 billion dollar a year cost
of car crashes comes to an $800 per year tax per American - and that
doesn't take into account volunteer firefighters! My brother is a
volunteer firefighter in Colorado, he said that more then 50% of his
call outs are for car crashes. He has seen stuff that would make me
unable to sleep at night.
What % of our fire dept call outs are for car crashes I wonder, can't
find that number anywhere.
42,000 people killed in 2004, 117 people per day. That's amazing -
think of the reaction that 9/11 caused and that was what - 3,500 people?
What if terrorists were killing 117 people per day in the US? Then
maybe we'd do something about it.
Depressing but fascinating.
