San Francisco African American Faith-Based Coalition & City Teams Up to Spread Joy and Nourishment this 2024 Holiday Season!

San Francisco, CA – The San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) and The Office of Economic and Workforce Development is thrilled to partner with the San Francisco African American Faith-Based Coalition (SFAAFBC) and Livable City for our fifth annual Feeding 5,000 holiday giveaway event, which is
dedicated to uplifting vulnerable members of our community. The event will take place on Saturday, December 14, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. We will be distributing holiday turkeys and fresh produce at the Rafiki Coalition for Health and Wellness, situated at 601 Cesar Chavez St., San Francisco, CA 94124.

We warmly invite media representatives to join us for coverage between 10:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. In collaboration with over 60 local community organizations, our amazing staff and volunteers will be working hard to distribute turkeys, fresh produce, and festive trimmings to faith and community-based
organizations. These groups will then deliver these vital resources to more than 7,000 households in need across San Francisco.

As we confront rising health disparities, it’s more important than ever to address our community’s needs. Hospitalizations related to diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease are disproportionately high among Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander and Black/African American residents, highlighting the urgent need for support.

With food prices rising and unemployment rates increasing, this year’s Feeding 5,000 event will not only provide turkeys and produce boxes but also $25 gift cards to help families in need. We’re also making sure to support our seniors by offering prepared meals during the week of the Christmas holiday.

The dedicated leadership of the SFAAFBC, in partnership with Livable City, Burge LLC, and DPH staff, will oversee the distribution of resources to faith-based and community organizations at the Rafiki Coalition, ensuring that assistance reaches those who need it most. Community-based organizations will pick up
prepared meals for seniors at designated locations featuring culturally appropriate dishes prepared by Dixson Delights Catering.

Since launching in 2020 during the pandemic, Feeding 5,000 has become a shining beacon of hope, distributing food to over 22,700 households. This initiative reflects the unwavering commitment of faith-based congregations to combat food insecurity and support our community.

The San Francisco African American Faith-Based Coalition includes over 21 churches passionately advocating for the underserved Black community, representing more than 6,000 residents. For more information or to connect with SFAAFBC, please email info@sfaafbcoalition.org.
